Creativity and Spirituality
It is the creative potential itself in human beings that is the image of God. – Mary Daly
Creativity and spirituality are the twin lights of my life. They are the two main ways I connect with, dip into, and am nourished by the source of my being. (A third doorway being contact with nature.)
If you share these feelings, probably we have a lot in common. If you also share one of the hallmarks of “sensitive, creative/spiritual” types – difficulty in grounding your visions and dreams in reality and in getting your work out into the world - then I definitely understand how you feel.
Check out my Group and Individual Coaching that will help you ground your vision in reality.
Many of us feel like “late bloomers,” and are still struggling to bloom.
There are many reasons why people like us, who have so much to offer, often have a hard time offering it and having the satisfaction of seeing it received. Some of the reasons are:
- Being introverted and “thin-skinned” (and therefore averse to conflict and competition)
- Issues of self-worth
- Strong inner critic, comparing self to others
- Lack of self-trust and confidence, easily discouraged
- Ambivalence about money, success, marketing; possibly disdain for them as “not spiritual”
- Valuing and living more in the inner world
- Not totally grounded on the earth plane, sometimes difficulty taking action
- Lack of support from family and friends
- Not able to earn a living at what we love, spending time at other jobs
Do any of these resonate? We all have a different mix of characteristics. But if you relate to any of these traits, then know that you’re not alone. And also know that there’s hope.
It’s taken me years – no, decades – to build a bridge between these two realms, the realm of the inner world, inner life, and the outer; between my creative and spiritual openness, and the grounded “earth” reality. (One thing I learned is that what I’m not good at I can delegate, hire someone to do – what a relief to discover that!)
I’ve also discovered that until we fully “land” here, we cannot be a vehicle for whatever our gift is that we are here to give. It will stay undelivered, not fully manifested. And I can think of few things more painful than living in a state of unrealized potential.
If you want help integrating your spirituality, creativity, and the rest of your life . . . If you have specific creative or spiritual issues you want to explore . . . Especially if you have gifts to give that need to be grounded – I would love to help you.
I am offering a Creativity Support Group that is designed with you in mind. Go to my Coaching Programs page and learn about it. This may be just what you’ve been looking for!
